SafeNet Receives Donation as Mayor’s chosen Charity

SafeNet have been presented with a donation from the Burnley Mayor’s charity for £10,556. During his Mayoral year, 2021-2022, Councillor Mark Townsend chose three charities to fundraise for: Safenet, Derian House Children’s Hospice and Barry Kilby’s Prostate Cancer Appeal.

Mark and his wife, Kerry Townsend, have raised over £30,000 through the Mayoress’ fundraising committee. The fundraising faced challenges early into the year due to covid restrictions in which they managed to overcome and raise an incredible £31,948 donated by the people of Burnley and Padiham.

Mark Townsend completed the East Lancashire Three Peaks challenge and kayaked along part of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. Funds were also raised through sponsored head shaves, a Christmas wreath making event and a Psychic evening.

The Mayor and Mayoress visited SafeNet in December 2021 for a tour of the Burnley Women’s Refuge and Jane’s Place. Jane’s Place Recovery Refuge offer specialist support services including long term accommodation for women and children suffering from domestic abuse.

Alex Atkinson, Head of Support Services at SafeNet said; ‘We are truly overwhelmed at how much the Mayor’s Charity has raised in such a short space of time. Their dedication will help fund essential items that will make a huge difference to the support we provide to our survivors.’
