SafeNet Supporters Launch Night Success at Burnley Town Hall

SafeNet Domestic Abuse and Support Services has launched a new initiative to enable members of the public to help raise funds for and awareness about SafeNet, as they support women, men and children affected by domestic abuse.

The launch event was held at Burnley Town Hall on Thursday 7 March to celebrate International Women’s Day Eve and attended by approximately 60 new members.

The evening included talks from both SafeNet Patron, John Clough MBE and SafeNet Managing Director, Helen Gauder. Jane’s Place is the first Complex Needs Refuge in the county and named in memory of John and Penny’s daughter, Jane Clough.

During his speech, John spoke about the importance of looking out for signs of domestic abuse within relationships and urged people to seek help when needed.

This was followed by a powerful performance about domestic abuse from drama-based training company AFTA Thought to give supporters an insight to the challenges that people who are supported by SafeNet can often face.

Helen Gauder, SafeNet Managing Director said:

“At SafeNet, we are often approached by people who want to give something back, to donate their free time and play a bigger part within the Lancashire and Greater Manchester communities.

“By launching SafeNet Supporters, those generous people will now be able to work together to find ways of raising funds and awareness, and in turn, help SafeNet to reach more people and continue to provide the vital services that are needed.”

SafeNet Supporters will be run by volunteers with the support of SafeNet staff. If this is something you would like be involved in, please visit https://safenet.org.uk/ or contact supporters@safenet.org.uk
