SafeNet’s Recovery Refuge Jane’s Place received a highly commended acknowledgement at the Northern Housing Awards on Wednesday 16th May 2018.
The Recovery Refuge is the first of its kind in the North West, and offers safe and secure temporary accommodation for women and children at risk of domestic abuse, who have additional complex needs.
Jane’s Place although just missing out on the award for Supported/Sheltered Housing Scheme of the Year, was highly commended at the awards ceremony for the residence and the facilities it provides.
The evening was initiated by Greater Manchester Mayor, Andy Burnham, who highlighted the work the social housing industry provides in the area. Burnham observed that when he looks at the challenges he faces in his role “housing is right up there”.
The Mayor further emphasised that on a national scale “the debate about housing is quite a negative one” going on to say that the evenings awards’ celebrated the “people who are doing brilliant things at that community level, often ignored by the national media”.
