Colleagues from across Safenet and The Calico Group came together on Friday to take part in Safenet’s community walk up Pendle Hill, marking the organisation’s 50th anniversary year.
The walk was organised as a chance to celebrate the people and communities that have supported Safenet’s work over the past five decades. Participants met in Barley before setting off on the longer route around the reservoirs and through Ogden Clough, enjoying the Lancashire countryside along the way.
As walkers made their way to the summit, there was plenty of opportunity to catch up, meet new people and reflect on what Safenet has achieved since it was established 50 years ago.
The event brought together people from across the wider Safenet community, highlighting the strong connections that have helped the organisation grow and continue supporting survivors of domestic abuse throughout Lancashire.
The walk forms part of a year of activities recognising Safenet’s milestone anniversary. Since 1976, Safenet has worked alongside survivors, providing specialist support and helping people move towards safer, more secure futures.
Today, the organisation continues to deliver inclusive, survivor-led services and remains committed to raising awareness of domestic abuse and the impact it has on individuals, families and communities.
Reflecting after the walk, Safenet’s Managing Director, Helen Gauder, said: “It was wonderful to see so many people who have been part of Safenet’s journey come together to celebrate our 50th anniversary. Safenet has been supported by incredible colleagues, partners and communities over the years, and this walk was a fitting opportunity to reflect on how far we’ve come while looking ahead to the future.
“Although the route was described as a ‘moderate’ climb, I think we can all agree it was no small challenge, and everyone who took part should be incredibly proud of their achievement. Events like this remind us of the strength of our community and our shared commitment to supporting survivors of domestic abuse across Lancashire and Greater Manchester.”
