Burnley restaurant launches giving tree appeal for SafeNet

Icaro Lounge has announced SafeNet as their chosen charity this Christmas.

The café bar – which is located on Pioneer Place in Burnley – has set up a ‘Gift-Giving Tree’ to inspire their customers to buy gifts for children and families living in SafeNet refuges.

Unlike a normal Christmas tree which is adorned with lights, tinsel and baubles, a ‘Gift Giving Tree’ is also loaded with gift labels to get people into the spirit of giving.

Each tag features a present idea for someone who might otherwise not receive one such as slippers, pyjamas, duvet sets and other cosy essentials for individuals and families living in Lancashire refuges this Christmas.

Catherine Mitchell, General Manager at Icaro Lounge, said: “LoungeAid has returned for the festive season here at Icaro Lounge. Our gift-giving tree is here to provide a little relief at a hard time in somebody’s life. Choose a gift tag, buy the gift – wrap it if you wish and return it to Icaro Lounge”.

Icaro Lounge is part of the Loungers PLC. Each of their café bars has their own unique name and identity, with over 220 locations across the UK. Their charity appeal, LoungeAid, encourages each lounge to raise money and support local causes and charities all year round.

Lisa Durkin, Business Development Officer at SafeNet, said: “As well as the Gift Giving Tree, Icaro Lounge are a holding a Christmas raffle with all proceeds going to Safenet.

She continued: “We’re incredibly grateful for the support of Icaro Lounge and local businesses to raise awareness, collect gifts and raise vital resources to support our work through community and business partnerships”.

Icaro Lounge became the first unit to open this summer in the £23m Pioneer Place development in Burnley town-centre. Offering a cosy ‘home-away-from-home’ vibe, the restaurant has become a welcome addition to Burnley’s hospitality offering.

Also getting in the spirit of giving this Christmas are Napthens AfterAthena LLP. The Preston based solicitors are running an Amazon wish list gift appeal for SafeNet this year, involving their staff and customers who may want to buy a gift via Amazon.

Napthens will collect all the gifts and drop them off at SafeNet to distribute across all refuges in time for Christmas.

SafeNet have refuges located throughout the northwest, helping survivors escape domestic abuse.

If you’d like to donate, head to Icaro Lounge to pick a tag off the tree. For more information, please contact: ldurkin@safenet.org.uk
